The surprise and delight of an old-time variety show comes to the concert hall with Vaudeville!, a musical performance featuring the woodwind sextet Ventus Machina. The show is anchored by a zany work entitled "Vaudeville! – Acrobatics for soprano saxophone and woodwind quintet", by celebrated Canadian composer Lothar Klein. The centerpiece of Klein's composition is a spoof of yet another theatre piece: a famous sextet from an opera by Donizetti.
Premiere performances of not one but two new works by Canadian composers are also on the program; one by Quebec's Robert Lemay, and the other by Edmundston's own Sophie Dupuis. Rounding out the program are Janáček's well-loved Mládí, Milhaud's timeless Scaramouche –music for puppet theatre that is bound to make you smile – and a very surprising version of Cohen's Bird on the Wire. A most eclectic, unusal, and enjoyable entertainment!
